Ayurveda: An ancient practice to soothe the modern human

Known as the sister science to Yoga, Ayurveda is starting to show up more and more in modern day health and wellness spaces. Because being a modern human can be so hard on our system we are finding ourselves attracted to self-soothing behavior that is having significant and negative impacts on our health. Ayurveda uses nature as a guide to help us find balance and stability in a world that moves fast and changes all the time. In this 6 week online class series Zaidee will teach you about Ayurveda, share some of the key practices and concepts that make Ayurveda so easy to incorporate, as well as help you navigate some of the popular content that is sprouting up in the social media sphere.

Week 1: The building blocks of Ayurveda

What does Ayurveda actually mean and how can it help you? This session will focus on the basic terms to know and the process through which Ayurveda supports your health and well-being.

Week 2: your 5 senses

Ayurveda focuses much of its theory of health and healing on how the 5 senses and the related organs are managed or mismanaged. In this session you will learn how to care for your five senses so that you can feel more grounded and connected in your daily life.

Week 3: the 4 seasons

One of my peers called Ayurveda the original seasonal eating system. Since we are so greatly affected by our environment it is important to have an understanding of how the different seasons affect you.

Week 4: the 6 tastes

Food is medicine and when you make the choices that best suit your needs you can feel a little better able to manage your health.

Week 5: build a daily routine

The daily routine is the backbone of living a more balanced and connected life. Once you start to understand the concepts of Ayurveda you can start building a routine that suits your special needs.

Week 6: what to look out for online

As mentioned in the initial description, there are a lot of social media influencers incorporating Ayurvedic concepts into their programs. Some know what they are talking about and others have taken a day long course in their teacher training and only know the basics. As with everything involving your personal health, there is no one size fits all and no cure all practices, supplements or diets. This session will give you some pointers on sniffing out grifts or misunderstandings of the system.
